CLIMBMAX CLIMBING is a family run and operated business.  We have been sharing our love for climbing for 19 years.  Each customer that walks through that door, and each and every employee has made Climbmax what it is today, … A family run business where YOU are the FAMILY !

Stuart Ice ClimbingStuart Cowles, President
Stuart Cowles is the founder and creator of ClimbMax Climbing Center and ClimbMax Mountain Guides. In 1992 Stuart moved to Asheville, having never been here before, looking for a city to create his unique dream, one of the very first rock climbing centers in the country.  The few criteria he had were that the city had to be unique, small enough to support his sanity, surrounded, in every direction, by mountains.  Some nineteen years later Cowles still loves the town, the mountains, and especially the climbing community who have embraced this great gym and made it part of their life.In addition to being an excellent climbing guide, Stuart is also a great teacher with over 25 years of experience working with youth in an outdoor learning environment. When not working or guiding in the Southern Appalachia, he loves to travel the world seeking out high adventures.  Appalachian Trail thru-hiker, high mountain
adventurer, avid trail runner, accomplished teacher,  . . . . and dog lover !Contemplative Dog
