About Your Coaches:
CMX Climbing Coaches are dedicated to creating successful and rewarding experiences for youth climbers.

Our goals as Coaches are:
– To create a safe and fun environment for all team members; young athletes need to feel safe in all respects in order to challenge themselves.
–To teach the skills of climbing.
– To motivate athletes to take ownership in their personal development.
– To imbue hard work and discipline with a sense of play.
– To provide appropriate challenge and direction for both the recreational participant and the avid competitor.
Head Coach David Sharratt

As much fun as climbing is, it can be just as rewarding to help others excell. David finds joy in seeing the spark for climbing ignite in people. He is a dedicated teacher and has over 7 years of professional coaching experience, and 9 years of professional rock/alpine guiding experience. He is a certified route-setter by the American Sport Climbing Federation.

David's passion for his own climbing has taken him to mountain ranges and climbing areas around the world: from jungle big-walls in Malaysia, to wind etched towers in Patagonia, to the remote Himalaya, to European sport climbing. He has been described in Alpinist Magazine as “One of America's most accomplished Adventure Climbers”.

Coach Stuart Cowles

Stuart Cowles is the founder and creator of Climbmax Climbing Center and Climbax Mountain Guides. In addition to being an excellent climbing guide, Cowles is also a great teacher with over 25 years of experience working with youth in an outdoor learning environment. When not working or guiding in the Southern Appalachia, Cowles loves to travel the world seeking out high adventures.

Cowles has certification and training in the following areas:
• AMGA Certified Member
• AMGA Certified Climbing Wall Instructor
• WMI Wilderness First Responder First Aid Training
• AMGA Alpine Training
• AIARE Avalanche Training

Coach Anthony DeVito

Currently the head climbing route setter at Climbmax Climbing Center, DeVito is a passionate climber with a love for teaching others. His vast experience in the indoor gym climbing field makes him a perfect climbing coach. Anthony has worked with climbing teams all across the country.
